Integrating Object and Constraint Technologies for Stating and Solving Resource Scheduling Problems

چکیده
Resource scheduling is a difficult and time consuming problem, especially when human resources are involved. The major reason of this difficulty emerges from the complexity and the dynamically changing nature of the regulations that restrict the solutions of problem. Constraint Logic Programming (CLP) is currently considered as the most powerful computational paradigm for stating and solving such problems. However, the statement of complex regulations is still extremely hard and results in a large semantic gap between the implied formalization and the problem regulations, as perceived by the end-user. Ideally, the end-user should be able to represent and modify directly the regulations, but since a high level formalism is not available, the interference of an expert programmer is always required. In this paper, we suggest an Object-Oriented meta-representation for the abstract, natural specification of regulations. With the target of obtaining an efficient scheduling system, we describe the relationship between our formalism and the CLP one, laying the foundation for automatic transformation between the two representations.

Yard crane scheduling in port container terminals using genetic algorithm
Yard crane is an important resource in container terminals. Efficient utilization of the yard crane significantly improves the productivity and the profitability of the container terminal. This paper presents a mixed integer programming model for the yard crane scheduling problem with non- interference constraint that is NPHARD in nature. In other words, one of the most important constraints in...
متن کاملSolving Distributed Delivery Problems with Agent-Based Technologies and Constraint Satisfaction Techniques
A considerable amount of research has been concerned with the domain of automatic planning and scheduling, but many real world scheduling problems such as The Pick up and Delivery Problem With Time Windows (PDPTW) are still not easily tackled. The PDPTW problem demands solving the schedule for each vehicle of a transportation fleet where pick up and delivery of customer orders are distributed a...

Constraint-based scheduling is a powerful tool for solving real-life scheduling problems thanks to a natural integration of special solving algorithms encoded in global constraints. The filtering algorithms behind these constraints are based on propagation rules modelling some aspects of the problems, for example a unary resource. This paper describes new incremental propagation rules integrati...

متن کاملUsing Uml for Stating and Handling Regulations in the Resource (re)scheduling Problem
In the class of (re)scheduling problems where humans constitute the main resource, the scheduling process is influenced by a great number of regulations. The complexity and the dynamic nature of these regulations impose the need for an efficient, flexible and user-friendly way to express and manage them. Our approach, called REDOM, in the form of a Regulations Handling System and a special purp...
